Turkey Wins to Litton, Burford, Grigsby & McBride

Turkey Wins to Litton, Burford, Grigsby & McBride

Litton, Burford, Grigsby & McBride take season finales; IRP Race Cars owner Jason Ingalls injured.

Unofficial results & notes from LoneStar Speedway, Kilgore, Texas, November 24th, 2012 courtesy of Bill Kitchen.

SUPR Late Models: 2012 and now 3-time SUPR Late Model champion Rob Litton passed Shane Hebert in lapped traffic with a lap and a half to go to take top honors and win the 50-lap, $3500-to-win season finale for SUPR. Litton won two SUPR races this year to bring his career total to 27. He won the first race of the season back in March and now, he's won the last one. Hebert finished 2nd with Patriot Day Lonestar winner Kevin Sitton getting 3rd. (results unofficial) SUPR points runner-up Allen Tippen was 4th and Childress Racing's Chris Wall came from 17th starting spot to finish 5th. His Childress Racing teammate BJ Robinson also had a good car in the A-main and appeared to be advancing when the most serious crash of the race occurred on a lap 19 restart with Robinson in the 6th position. (first 18 laps were caution free). The incident which saw BJ's #F5 go airborne into the upper guard rail in turn one eliminated the cars of Robinson, Troy Berdan and 2012 COMP Cams Super Dirt Series champion Jon Mitchell.

P&W Sales Motorsports racer and 2011 SUPR Champion Morgan Bagley led much of the race and appeared unreachable to the rest of the field until a broken axle eliminated the #14M. Morgan Bagley will represent Texas on the World of Outlaw Late Model tour in 2013 and go for the Rookie-of-the-Year title in that series. Bagley also won the SUPR rookie title in 2011 and the title stayed in the P&W Sales Racing stables in 2012 with Zach McMillan claiming SUPR RotY in the #14Z P&W Sales car. SUPR and P&W Sales also made the announcement at the speedway last night that in 2013, it will be the P&W Sales SUPR Late Model tour as the Kilgore, Texas-based company will become title sponsor for the series.

Mods: Jamie Burford ran a good heat but broke something and was a DNF. So he started last in an 8-car B main and won it to start 13th in the A-main. He took his IRP (Ingalls Racing Products) Chassis to the lead with an outside pass on Dustin Duncan Memorial winner Cody Simpson and went on to victory from there. Simpson finished 2nd with Kevin Nixon, 3rd. 2012 Track Champion Larry Fears I believe was 4th. Results unofficial. They will get posted at www.LonestarSpeedway.com later.

Unfortunately, Burford's car builder Jason Ingalls was seriously injured in the feature when an object entered his car's interior and shattered the face shield on his helmet. Ingalls remains in Good Shepherd Medical Center Hospital in Longview with several painful facial bone fractures that will require surgery. That's the bad news. The good news is, full recovery is expected. Ingalls was leading the race when he pulled into the infield with some kind of mechanical trouble. After several laps, they repaired the car and he had rejoined the field at the back of the pack for some testing when the accident occurred.

30 SUPR Late Models, 27 Open Wheel Modifieds, 39 Limited Modifieds and 42 Factory Stocks on hand. 138 in 4 classes. Sure can't complain about that any time and especially on Nov 24th. The afternoon was very pleasant. About 60 with no wind and lots of clear sunny skies. But that meant a big temp drop at sunset. It was 40 when I left the track a little before 9. Pretty nice crowd too although some left a little early when it got cold. The racing may have been some of the best I've seen at Lone Star all season. Those of you who have a subscription, can check out the Late Model highlights at www.DirtonDirt.com/ . The racing will impress you! It's $6.99 for a month's worth or $65 for the year. They will be covering Florida Speedweeks so...gift subscription to a loved one who happens to be a racing fan perhaps? Burford's drive in the Modifieds was impressive too and in the last race of the season, the Factory Stocks stayed side-by-side the whole 15 laps with only ONE caution!

Limited Mods: Dereck Grigsby drove his Express Race Cars #69 from the 3rd row to win the race. Keith Lee, Jr. was second. Not sure after that but I believe Bob Kellogg and then Barry Hornbeck and Bud Reed who came out of the B-mains, got the top 5 finishes. Official results will get posted at www.LonestarSpeedway.com/ later. Dennie Gieber appeared headed for victory in the #15W but mechanical issues caused him to pull off the track without finishing.

Factory Stocks: Donny McBride, Jr. got in the black #3 this week and took the win. Jonathan Stewart was 2nd. Steve Grantz (former Corpus Christi native who may be headed that way this weekend for the South Texas Shootout) made a late race pass on track champion Dewayne Pace to take third with Pace getting 4th. Steve Hearne, TJ Evans, Cody Robbins, Bubba Vines, Josh Daugherty & Joey Vergo were all among the racers who made the last feature of the year a memorable one with a side-by-side 15-lap feature that only had one caution and that was due to a mechanical failure, not a spin. Robbins won a B-main and then I believe came from 14th to 5th but again, not sure. Official results will get posted at www.LonestarSpeedway.com/ later.

11/12 UPDATE: Modifieds & Limited Modifieds have gone TOPLESS for the LoneStar Turkey Nationals!

Kilgore TX (11/6/12) by DarinShort.com. The final SUPR Late Model Series event of 2012 will be spectacular when the LoneStar Turkey Nationals hits the high banks of LoneStar Speedway Saturday, November 24th. The feature race is 50 laps in distance and pays $3,500 to win and $500 to start.

And that’s not all.

In the first time in the 22 year history of the SUPR Late Model Series, the cars will race topless! So race fans will get a clear view of the drivers as they wheel their cars around the wide high-banked 3/8 mile oval.

The event is sponsored in part by P&W Sales located in Kilgore, Texas. P&W has been supplying drilling and oilfield products to the industry for over 48 years. P&W is also a proud sponsor of Late Model standout Morgan Bagley.

Fans can expect a large field of Late Model division drivers and several ‘invaders’ can be expected from throughout the region, including LoneStar SUPR Firecracker 40 winner Kevin Sitton; plus Allen Tippen, Rob Litton, Jim Bryant, Robbie Starnes, Zack McMillan, Ronny Adams, Robbie Stuart, Ray Moore, Tyler Erb – and many, many more. Other than the Late Model drivers required to being topless, all other SUPR rules and formats will be in effect.

In addition to the SUPR Late Model Series, a complete program of Modified (paying $600 to win), Limited Modified ($500 to win) and Factory Stocks ($400 to win) will compete. There is no entry fee in the Modified, Limited Modified and Factory Stock divisions. Complete purse breakdown for all divisions and rules are located at the track website.

Drivers in the Modifieds, Limited Modifieds and Factory Stocks have an added bonus, as Boothill Speedway (racing November 23rd) plus LoneStar Speedway (Nov. 24th) have teamed up to provide the overall weekend point’s winner, in each division, a two-track cash bonus of $200.

Special “Twilight” start times are in effect for this event, so fans and teams can have a great day of racing at the track, while still leaving at an early time. With hot laps scheduled for 2pm and racing to follow, we expect the races to be finished by 7 or 8pm.

Here are some quick facts for the event:

-“Twilight Start Times” are in effect: Pits open at 11am, Grandstands open at 1pm, Hot Laps at 2pm, with Racing to follow immediately. The draw for sign-in closes at 1:30pm

The LSN is a three-day, Sprint Car-only show featuring two divisions: Winged Sprint Cars and Winged RaceSaver® Sprint Cars. LoneStar Speedway features a brightly lit, fast, high-banked 3/8 mile clay oval. The LSN event website is located at: www.darinshort.com/SCN.html and contains up to the minute event news and information. On race weekend, you can also get live LSN line-ups and finishes by clicking the homepage link at www.darinshort.com (formatted for your SmartPhone or desktop computer).

As of Tuesday morning, LSN weekend weather is looking FANtastic, with daily highs in the low to mid-80’s.

Qualifying night (Thursday/Friday) 30-lap A-features pay $2,000 to win and $200 to start for the Sprint Car division; and $750 to win Thursday and $500 to win Friday for the RaceSaver Sprint Cars. No time trials in either division.

Saturday night’s Sprint Car division 40-lap 25-car feature pays $13,000 to win and $1,200 to start; and $2,200 to win and $400 to start the RaceSaver Sprint Car 30-lap 25-car championship race.

And as impressive as the purse for this event is, race fans can purchase a 3-day adult grandstand pass for 1980’s pricing of only $40 upon their arrival at the track on race night. Or, individual night tickets are $15 each for Thursday and Friday, and just $20 on Saturday’s blockbuster event.

New for 2012 LoneStar Sprint Nat'ls: LoneStar CAMPGROUNDS

Postby dmantx » Tue Sep 25, 2012 10:43 am
KILGORE, TX (9/25/12) by DarinShort.com. LoneStar Speedway is pleased to announce the long awaited completion of the LoneStar Campgrounds located on the LoneStar Speedway property.

The LoneStar Campgrounds link is located within the LoneStar Sprint Nationals event website (Oct. 11-13), and here's the direct camping link:

The web page contains interactive maps, and a property map that is labeled with locations and directions.

There are currently 10 Camping spaces, with hook-ups (electricity and potable water), are currently available for this year's LoneStar Sprint Nationals.

The cost to reserve your space for the entire weekend is $75.

We have 10 camping spaces built on the far Southwest corner of the LoneStar Speedway property in an area we cleared out of the Piney Woods forest. (see aerial view of property for exact location below)

Once these 10 spots are sold out, all other camping spaces will be assigned, upon your arrival, as the track sees fit for your vehicle size/camping set-up.

There is no charge for camping spaces without hook-ups, but you must sign in at the office upon your arrival.

ALL CAMPERS MUST HAVE WORKING CARBON MONOXIDE METERS if you are to camp anywhere on the LoneStar Speedway property (assuming you have any generator-type equipment that produces Carbon Monoxide).

We require that ALL CAMPERS be respectful of the LoneStar Speedway property and other campers around you. Please clean up any messes you make, so we can keep camping affordable - and available - at LoneStar Speedway for this, and future events!
